Boletus pseudosensibilis
COMMON NAME:

DESCRIPTION:
Smooth, dry surface with rusty brown to reddish brown color, fading to cinnamon/dingy yellow brown with age.
FRUIT BODY:
Mushroom cap is 2 3/8-5 1/2" (6-14cm) wide; brown to reddish brown color when young. Stalk 3 1/8-6 3/8" (8-16cm) long, 5/8-1 1/4" (1.5-3cm) thick; yellow color overall with red, pinkish or purplish tones near base, no reticulations.
FERTILE SURFACE:
Yellow to mustard pores when young developing olive tones with age; rapidly changing to brown when bruised. Spore print is olive/brown.
FLESH:
Bright yellow in color, quickly staining blue when cut or bruised.
LOOK ALIKES:
Often confused with similar appearing species such as Boletus sensibilis.
ODOR & TASTE:
Not distinctive.
HABITAT & SEASON:
Often found in troops on the ground in deciduous forests (especially oak) from July-September.
EDIBILITY / USES:
Edible, but not recommended.
OTHER NOTES:
Many lookalikes are poisonous.
