PANDEMIC FORAY RULES

Based on COVID levels, some of our NJMA forays may be changed to require NJMA members to preregister. We will let members know in advance if that is required.  All participants must agree to adhere to the current state's guidelines for social distancing and wearing a mask covering the nose and mouth. In 2022, no NJMA outdoor foray has required preregistration or masking due to COVID conditions.

Our forays typically start at 10am and are held rain or shine and are held in all parts of the state of New Jersey. We collect until noon, after which we sort and identify our collections. Unidentified and rare collections will be preserved for further examination. Identified collections will be returned to the woods.

Members will receive a list of planned forays several weeks before the collecting season begins (June to early November) For forays requiring preregistration, members will be asked to send an email to the foray chair in which they rank specific forays they would like to attend. Every effort will be made to fulfill members first and second choice depending on when they signed up. Those forays will be at 'invitation only'. New members and those who signed up late will be put on a waiting list.

Most of our sites require permits, which prohibit picking edibles to take home to eat. Please respect all park rules and regulations. Adhere to good conservation practices and endeavor to leave foray areas as undisturbed as possible.

Participants are encouraged to take photos of the mushrooms but please do not take pictures of people without obtaining their consent.

After the foray, participants and the foray site administrators, will receive an email with a short summary and list of what was found.

We recommend bringing a basket or box to hold your collections, wax paper or brown paper sandwich bags to separate your collections, a knife, a lens (loupe) if you have one, and a pen or pencil. Do not use plastic bags since they crush and rot delicate fungi.
